Pindar's Aylesbury-based cartography business has been bought out of administration by Amersham-based printer Halstan Holdings in a deal that has saved 16 jobs.

Mark Firmin, KPMG associate partner and joint administrator to GA Pindar Son and subsidiaries Pindar and Pindar Print, confirmed today (29 July) that the business had been sold.

He added that all 16 staff had been transferred to Halstan as part of the sale, which follows that of Pindar's Scarborough-based web offset plant to York Mailing.

"We are very pleased to have sold a second Pindar business, safeguarding further employment," said Firmin.

Halstan chairman Christopher Smith was unavailable for comment at the time of writing.

Halstan has a turnover of £6.4m according to its accounts for the year to 30 June 2010 and employs around 77 staff (excluding the Pindar acquisition).

The company, which was founded in 1919, found early success in the niche market for printed sheet music and still works with many leading music publishers, as well as public and private sector clients.
