Exploring the Yorkshire Coast by bike: the new Route YC map
17 November 2025
Cycling the Yorkshire Coast has become even more inspiring thanks to a new collaboration between Pindar Creative, world-renowned adventure cyclist Markus Stitz and the North York Moors National Park. Together, they have created a beautifully designed printed map for Route YC, helping riders of all levels explore Yorkshire's dramatic coastline and countryside through a series of carefully planned day and multi-day rides.
A Vision from the Road
Markus Stitz, best known for cycling solo around the world on a single-speed bike and for creating bikepacking and gravel routes through Bikepacking Scotland, was commissioned by Route YC to design a network of rides that capture the spirit and diversity of the Yorkshire Coast. Drawing on his years of exploration and passion for sustainable adventure, Markus mapped routes that weave through cliffs, moorlands and fishing villages, connecting quiet lanes, gravel paths and scenic viewpoints.
“The Yorkshire Coast has this perfect balance of adventure and accessibility,” Markus explained. “My aim was to design routes that inspire people to discover both the wild beauty of the moors and the warmth of its coastal communities.”
From Digital Design to Printed Exploration
To bring Markus's routes to life, Pindar Creative, a specialist in cartography and sustainable travel mapping, worked closely with the Route YC and North York Moors National Park team to transform his digital data into a detailed, easy-to-use printed map. The new publication showcases several cycling adventures, including:
- The Route YC Adventure Route - a 415 km gravel challenge from Whitby to Spurn Point.
- The Adventure Weekender - a 147 km long-weekend ride around Whitby and the North York Moors.
- Hull to Staithes Cycle Touring Route - a 175 km touring route linking ferry and rail connections.
Each route is accompanied by safety guidance, local highlights and transport links, making the map an essential companion for both experienced riders and first-time bikepackers.
A New Way to #EnjoyTheRide
The printed Route YC Cycling Map complements the interactive resources on routeyc.co.uk/cycling, helping visitors plan rides offline while promoting sustainable tourism and local discovery.
Whether you are pedalling between seaside towns, tackling moorland trails or enjoying a weekend escape, the new Route YC map, created by Markus Stitz and designed by Pindar Creative, invites everyone to get on their bike and #enjoytheride along the Yorkshire Coast.
