New Public Transport Mapping for Tbilisi
3 December 2025
Tbilisi in Georgia, has recently made significant improvements to its public transportation system, including the introduction of new buses and the expansion of bus services across the city.
The city unveiled 25 new 18-meter MAN buses, each accommodating up to 162 passengers and featuring modern amenities such as heating, air conditioning, and accessibility options for individuals with disabilities. This initiative is part of a broader plan to integrate a total of 200 such buses into the fleet by the end of 2025.
In partnership with Mott MacDonald, we were commissioned as part of the Tbilisi bus project to design and develop cartographic products for public-facing products. The maps would be available across the city at bus stops, shelters, on the metro and online.
The following map types were developed using both the Roman script and the Georgian alphabet:
Metro In Car Diagram showing the two metro lines and how they connect with the airport, intercity and regional bus services, cable car, and railways.
Geographic City map showing bus routes, metro stations, the funicular and Georgian Railway routes/stations.
Schematic core routes poster showing the strategic public transport route network (metro and core bus routes) and interchange points with the metro and railway services.
Mark Sellin, Principal Transport Consultant at Mott MacDonald, emphasised:
A well-designed public transport network is only truly effective when users can easily navigate it. Clear and accessible maps empower every passenger - local or visitor - to travel with confidence, making the city more connected and inclusive for all.
Maria Heaman, Commercial Director at Pindar Creative, commented:
It was a pleasure to work with Mott MacDonald on developing this series of maps to promote Tbilisi’s new transport network. Being involved from the initial concept through to the final delivery has been a real privilege. We look forward to future opportunities to support the city’s evolving infrastructure.
