Pindar Creative Supports Aberdeenshire Council's School Streets Project
4 March 2026
Pindar Creative has supported Aberdeenshire Council in delivering clear, effective communications for its School Streets Project, helping to make school journeys safer and more sustainable for local families.
The School Streets Project introduces temporary road closures outside selected schools during peak drop-off and pick-up times. The aim is to improve road safety, reduce congestion and emissions, and encourage more active travel such as walking, wheeling and cycling.
User-friendly and Accessible Mapping for Schools
Our role was to design clear, user-friendly A3 map leaflets for:
- Kellands Primary School, Inverurie
- Buchanhaven Primary School, Peterhead
Each A3 leaflet clearly illustrated the specific road closures in place during peak times, ensuring parents, carers and residents could quickly understand the changes and plan their journeys accordingly. Clarity and accessibility were central to the design approach, with bold mapping, straightforward legends and easy-to-read layouts.
To maximise visibility on-site, the maps were also adapted into large-format gate banners displayed outside each school. These banners provide an immediate visual reminder of the restrictions and reinforce the scheme at the point where it matters most.
Encouraging Active Travel in Inverurie
In Inverurie, our work extended beyond the printed maps. To further support behaviour change around Kellands Primary School and Inverurie Academy, we designed a series of durable metal wayfinding signs installed around the town.
These signs highlight walking times to both schools, encouraging families to park further away and complete the final part of their journey on foot. By promoting short walks from alternative parking locations, the signage helps reduce congestion directly outside the school gates while supporting healthier, more active travel habits.

It has been great to work on another successful project with Aberdeenshire Council. Having previously partnered with the team on walking and cycling maps and the installation of Papercast ePaper real-time displays across the shire, it's fantastic to continue supporting initiatives that promote safer, and more sustainable travel across the region.
