Pindar Creative Delivers 69 Onward Travel Posters for the Luas tram network in Dublin to help passengers make the next connection

6 October 2026

When passengers step off a Luas tram, their journey often isn't over. They may need to connect to a bus, change to another rail service, walk to a destination or find a different Luas line.

The National Transport Authority (NTA) commissioned Pindar Creative to develop a new series of onward travel posters designed to make these connections easier to understand.

The challenge

The challenge was to communicate a significant amount of location-specific transport information without overwhelming passengers.

Each Luas stop has its own combination of nearby bus services, destinations, pedestrian connections and interchange opportunities. Passengers also need to understand where they are within the wider Luas network and which connections are available in their direction of travel.

The approach

Pindar Creative created a poster design template for this poster series, combining three complementary views of the network.

1. Local connections

A detailed geographic map places each Luas stop within its surrounding area and identifies bus stops within approximately a 5- or 10-minute walking catchment.

2. Public transport interchange

The local maps are supported by a structured listing of the bus services available from the identified stops.

Rather than requiring passengers to interpret the map alone, the accompanying information identifies the relevant bus routes and their end destinations, making it easier to select an onward service.

The posters also highlight key interchange opportunities with Luas and rail services, helping passengers understand how the different elements of Dublin's public transport network connect.

3. Wider Luas network

A schematic, tube-style representation of the Luas network provides the wider context.

The diagram pinpoints the passenger's current stop, shows the subsequent stops in the direction of travel and highlights important interchange points with other Luas lines and rail services.

This deliberately separates geographic information from network information. The local map answers “where is it?”, while the schematic answers “where can I go?”.

A QR code linking to live departure information provides the final step, connecting the static information on the poster with current service information.

This creates a clear distinction between information that is relatively stable - such as the network structure, locations and destinations - and information that changes continuously, such as live departures.

The result

The project delivered a new onward travel information system for Luas passengers, bringing together:

  • Luas network information and direction of travel.
  • Local maps around individual Luas stops.
  • 5- and 10-minute walking catchments.
  • Nearby bus stops and bus routes.
  • Bus destinations.
  • Luas and rail interchange information.
  • Local points of interest.
  • Operating hours and service-frequency information.
  • QR access to live departure information.

The result is a single, consistent passenger-information format that connects the Luas network with the wider transport and pedestrian environment around each stop.

By combining detailed geographic mapping with simplified network diagrams and actionable interchange information, the posters help passengers understand not just how to travel by Luas, but how Luas fits into the rest of their journey.

The project demonstrates Pindar Creative's ability to turn complex, location-specific transport data into clear, consistent and usable passenger information.

For passengers, the result is simple: clearer information at the moment they need to decide what to do next.
